The robot apocalypse has been delayed (and what can you do about it)

Presentation abstract

AI is the hottest trend in tech worldwide. It is full of promise and uncertainty, much like the internet was in the 90s. However, this creates a lot of hype. In a search of clickable headlines, reporting on AI is mostly focused on spinning a scary or an empowering story. There is little regard to facts. Therefore, most people (and even IT professionals) have the wrong idea on what AI is and what can it do.

In this talk, Slav will separate fact from fiction in AI. Through demonstrations and videos, you will learn:

  • Where did AI come from?
  • How does AI work?
  • Why do AI researchers fear the winter more than people in Game of Thrones?
  • What can AI do today?
  • Where is AI going and how fast are we getting there?
  • What difficulties lie ahead?
  • Why the robot apocalypse has been delayed and what can you do about it?
  • How to work with a team that is developing an AI / Machine Learning solution?

The presentation will include demos of current working AI tech (and fails). By the end, you will be able to spot hype and to distinguish it from what is actually possible in this exciting field.
